A cheaper alternative to a Diagnostic Church Consultation is a tool developed by Dr. Thom Rainer. It is described as “an effective tool a church can use to measure and discern its health in areas key to fulfilling its mission.” The 160-item questionnaire measures attendees' perceptions to six key Biblical purposes found in Acts 2:42-47. Five of these purposes are the same things Rick Warren writes about in "The Purpose Driven Life" and the "Purpose Driven Church" (Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, & Evangelism). The sixth purpose Dr. Rainer adds is Prayer. There are also questions related to beliefs about God, Jesus and what it means to be a Christian. Since your church is made up of a fellowship of believers, it's extremely important to know the specific attitudes, beliefs and perceptions that drive their actions (or lack thereof) toward the church. After competing questionnaires, your church receives a 60-page report summarizing your overall church health score, health scores for each of the six purposes, and recommendations (activities your church could do) for improving your scores in each of the six areas by the Coach.
